Hubbell Realty Company Celebrates 150 Years in Real Estate
DES MOINES, Iowa (April 20, 2006) – On April 21st, Hubbell Realty Co. will mark its 150th anniversary in the real estate business. On this landmark day in 1856, Frederick M. Hubbell completed his first real estate transaction – the purchase of 640 acres in Woodbury County, Iowa. That single transaction led him into many different business ventures. These included organizing the first streetcar company in Des Moines, forming Equitable Life Insurance Company of Iowa, investing in railroads and forming the Des Moines Water Company. Since that time, the Hubbell name has been synonymous with real estate in central Iowa. The company F.M. Hubbell created years ago still stands today. It has grown into a full-service real estate company composed of Hubbell Homes, CB Richard Ellis/Hubbell Commercial, Hubbell Development/Management Services and Hubbell Renovations. “Our mission is still based upon the principles established long ago by my great-great-grandfather,” states Chairman Jim Hubbell III. “Our goal is to be the leading provider of real estate solutions today and tomorrow by building on our strong foundation of integrity and our commitment to associates, clients and our community.” The entrepreneurial spirit of F.M. Hubbell still lives within the company today. During the past ten years, Hubbell has marked numerous achievements including: adding new subsidiaries CB Richard Ellis/Hubbell Commercial, Hubbell Homes, Hubbell Renovations and Hubbell Construction Services; moving its corporate headquarters to West Des Moines; entering the golf course business with the purchases of Woodland Hills and Copper Creek golf courses; and increasing its landholdings throughout the metro by 50 percent. F.M. Hubbell’s spirit of giving back to the community continues throughout the company today. The company focus has been on education, the arts and supporting Hubbell associates in their giving and community involvement. Associates and the company have given generously to organizations such as Big Brothers/Big Sisters, Rebuilding Together, March of Dimes and Nurturing a Student’s Vision, a program through the Des Moines Arts Festival that encourages area school children to create works of art and rewards schools with financial donations towards the purchase of art supplies. Hubbell Realty Company will celebrate its 150th anniversary on Thursday, May 4. For more information, contact Kelly Sharp at (515) 280-2050.
