West Des Moines, IA (May 8, 2015) – Hubbell Realty Company received site plan approval from the Des Moines Planning and Zoning Commission last night to move forward with its latest downtown project, 5Fifty5, a unique rental townhome community that will bring energy to yet another part of the downtown core. 
“This is an exciting project for us,” explained Rick Tollakson, Hubbell Realty Company President and CEO. “5Fifty5 accomplishes a goal we have had for some time: to meet the growing demand for diverse housing options in downtown Des Moines while engaging the river.”
5Fifty5 will be located near the Raccoon River at SW 7th Street and the Jackson Street Bridge. The $13 million project touts a streetscape design that encourages walking and connects people to their surroundings, creating an authentic urban experience not currently available in this area of downtown. 
“As we begin new developments, we think about the sense of place we want to create,” said Kris Saddoris, Hubbell Realty Company Vice President of Development. “At 5Fifty5, not only does it encompass edgy and unique architecture, it also was designed with narrower streets and trail connections to create another urban housing option as neighborhoods organically grow downtown.” 
Hubbell Realty worked closely with Slingshot Architecture to develop 5Fifty5. Private rooftop patios will overlook the river and Friday night Iowa Cubs’ fireworks. The 47-unit project brings new layouts to the downtown area, including the introduction of a taller 3-story unit with two balconies off each side and a top floor master bedroom suite. Units will offer two- and three-bedrooms with up to 3 bathrooms.
“Creating a sense of place is such a key component to building a community,” explained Larry Bradshaw, Downtown Neighborhood Association President. “We look forward to Hubbell’s project and know it will be a great asset to downtown living.”
