HUBBELL REALTY COMPANY & PERSIMMON CAPITAL PARTNERS BREAK GROUND ON DOWNTOWN’S “CITYVILLE ON 9TH”

West Des Moines, IA (June 28, 2013) – Hubbell Realty Company and Persimmon Capital Partners broke ground today on Cityville on 9th.  This new mixed-use, multi-family and commercial development is located on a 10.5 acre site in the Gray’s Landing neighborhood south of MLK Jr. Parkway.

Des Moines City Councilwoman Christine Hensley, Des Moines City Manager Rick Clark, Des Moines City Economic Development Coordinator Terry Vorbrich, Des Moines City Planning Administrator Michael Ludwig, Downtown Community Alliance President/CEO Glenn Lyons, and Des Moines East and South Chamber of Commerce Ambassador Karla Alaniz helped Persimmon Capital Partners Vice President Michael Snyder and Hubbell Realty Company executives, including President and CEO Rick Tollakson, Senior Vice President Steve Niebuhr and Development Vice President Kris Saddoris, celebrate the ceremonial turning of the dirt.

The projected $40.00 million development will consist of 339 micro, one and two bedroom apartments, covered parking and 55,000 square feet of retail commercial space within nine four-story buildings.  The project will be built in three phases with the first phase, consisting of 111 apartment homes, clubhouse and 20,000 square feet of commercial space, being completed in spring 2014.

Cityville on 9th will provide residents with the urban feel known to downtown while offering suburban amenities such as on-site parking, a dog park and community courtyard with green space and picnic/grill areas.  Additional amenities include community room, fitness center, business center and media center.  Apartment homes feature spacious floor plans, balconies, in-unit washers/dryers and walk-in closets. 

“Cityville on 9th is pioneering the development of a new neighborhood envisioned by Des Moines community leaders in the area south of MLK Jr. Parkway,” stated Saddoris.  “This project is designed with the goal of connecting people to their neighborhood and the city.  Buildings are naturally placed on the outside edges of the site to allow easy access to the downtown core, Gray’s Lake and anywhere in the metro.”
