Waukee, IA (July 7, 2011) – Hubbell Realty Company announced today the awards for its Living Green Home Show, located at Glynn Village in Waukee, Hubbell’s largest Conservation Community.  The Living Green Home Show showcases seven high-performance homes by four metro builders.  Awards included Lowest HERS (Home Energy Rating System) score, Best National Association of Home Builder’s (NAHB) Green Home, Best Curb Appeal, and Best of Show.  Each home was rated by an independent, accredited verifier to determine HERS and NAHB Green ratings. Other awards were determined by panelists from the city of Waukee and the Waukee Chamber of Commerce.

Best Curb Appeal: Hubbell Homes (1570 Hannah)
Best Curb Appeal runner up: Eden Custom Homes (160 Emerson)
Best of Show: Hubbell Homes (1570 Hannah)
Best of Show runner up: Meadowbrook Builders (220 Emerson)

People’s Choice will be voted on throughout the show and the winner will be announced Monday, July 18.

The HERS Index is a scoring system established by the Residential Energy Services Network (RESNET) in which a home built to the specifications of the HERS Reference Home (based on the 2006 International Energy Conservation Code) scores a HERS Index of 100, while a net zero energy home scores a HERS Index of 0. The lower a home's HERS Index, the more energy efficient it is in comparison to the HERS Reference Home.

Each 1-point decrease in the HERS Index corresponds to a 1% reduction in energy consumption compared to the HERS Reference Home. Thus a home with a HERS Index of 85 (a typical Energy Star Home) is 15% more energy efficient than the HERS Reference Home and a home with a HERS Index of 80 is 20% more energy efficient.
The NAHB Green certification process scores homes based on six categories: lot design; energy efficiency; water conservation; resource conservation; indoor environmental quality; and operation and maintenance.  All homes certified to the standard are inspected twice to ensure compliance with the standard’s stringent requirements and the inspection reports are reviewed by an independent, third-party verifier for additional quality control.

The Living Green Home Show is open July 7-17 from 4-8 p.m. weeknights and 10-8 weekends. Parking is available at South Middle School with free shuttle to the show.  The Wells Fargo Stagecoach will be on hand Sunday, July 10 from 1-4PM providing guests of the show stagecoach rides.
