Wakonda Club Partners with Hubbell Realty Co. on New Housing Initiative
DES MOINES, Iowa (July 30, 2007) – The Wakonda Club announced today its partnership with Hubbell Realty Company to construct new housing on the north side of the golf course’s 5th hole. Hubbell will design and build 30 – 40 customized, ranch-style townhomes that will blend with the natural setting of the course. Still in the early developmental stages, Hubbell intends to begin construction during the latter half of 2008. Wakonda Club members have been discussing the possibility of developing housing on the course for the past few years. Hubbell Realty Co. bested seven other firms during the selection process. “The Hubbells have been a part of the Wakonda family since the club originated in the 1920s,” states Kevin Grimm, President of Wakonda Club. “Hubbell’s skill in developing successful golf course communities is apparent from their previous projects. Working together to enhance our golf course community just seemed like a natural fit.” Hubbell Realty Company has developed two golf course communities in the Des Moines area including The Legacy Golf Course Community in Norwalk, IA and Copper Creek in Pleasant Hill, IA. Additionally, Hubbell completed construction of a $1.2 million clubhouse at Copper Creek Golf Club in March of this year. “We’ve taken great pride in creating neighborhoods that blend seamlessly with outstanding golf courses,” states President and CEO of Hubbell Realty Co., Rick Tollakson. “Partnering with Wakonda in creating a neighborhood for its already close-knit community is an opportunity we couldn’t pass up.” The Wakonda Club was founded in 1922 and its golf course is a William Boyce Langford design. Over 770 families are members of the club through its dining, clubhouse and golf memberships. The par 72 course is known for its hilly, oak-lined terrain and is consistently ranked among the top golf courses in the state of Iowa.
