DEMOLITION PARTY KICKS OFF CABINS FOR CAMPERS 24/7 PROJECT

West Des Moines, IA (August 7, 2013) – Hubbell Realty Company and Easter Seals Iowa hosted “Sips and Sledge” yesterday, a demolition party where guests paid $100 for three swings of the sledgehammer on one of the shower houses at Easter Seals’ Camp Sunnyside.  Guests were also able to donate by purchasing a commemorative brick or a 50/50 raffle ticket.  In total, over $4,100 was raised for Cabins for Campers 24/7, a week-long event in September where Hubbell, along with trade partners and volunteers, will work around the clock to build new, accessible cabins at Camp Sunnyside, complete with shower facilities, laundry and storm shelters.

“It felt great to take a swing at those old shower houses,” said Easter Seals Iowa President and CEO, Sherri Neilsen.  “We provide outstanding services here at camp, and I cannot wait for our facilities to measure up to the quality of our service.  The new cabins will be truly life changing for our clients and the staff who support them.”

Rick Tollakson, President and CEO of Hubbell Realty Company said he was pleased with the turnout at Sips and Sledge.  “We wanted people to come out and see the cabins first-hand, so they could understand why this project is such a worthy cause,” Tollakson said.  “A demolition party was a great way to get people fired up for Cabins for Campers 24/7.  Seeing the walls of the shower house come down was exciting for our team and we’re ready for September.”

The shower houses, as well as four cabins, will be demolished to prepare for Cabins for Campers 24/7.  Through sponsorship donations of time, talent and product, Hubbell will construct two 7,584 square foot cabins to replace the current ones.  The cabins at Camp Sunnyside were built by volunteers in the 1960s and have been used for year-round programming for over 50 years.  Cabins for Campers 24/7 begins on September 16th at 9:00 am and will wrap up with a ribbon cutting ceremony at 2:00 pm on September 23rd.

Sponsors of Sips and Sledge included KCWI 23’s “Great Day”, Ed Kelly and Old School, Stormy’s Tavern, Cedar Ridge Vineyards, Iowa Sign Company, Courtyard Marriot, Copper Creek Golf Club, Johnny’s Hall of Fame and Business Publications Corporation.  For more information about this project or to donate to the campaign, please visit www.CabinsforCampers.com.
