CABINS FOR CAMPERS 24/7 UNDERWAY

West Des Moines, IA (September 16, 2013) – Hubbell Realty Company and Easter Seals Iowa employees, along with the trade partners who made the project possible, Knights of Columbus from Our Lady's Immaculate Heart Catholic Church in Ankeny, Des Moines East High School Cheerleaders, Pony Express Riders of Iowa and even a marching band paraded in to the Cabins for Campers 24/7 construction site this morning to celebrate the start of the week-long event where two 7,500+ square foot cabins will be built at Easter Seals Iowa’s Camp Sunnyside.

State Representatives John Landon, Kevin Koester and Jack Drake were guest speakers during the opening ceremony.  Representative Landon spoke to the volunteers, saying “Your can-do spirit has turned the impossible into reality for Camp Sunnyside.” Representative Koester added “Thank you to this very impressive army of skilled labor volunteers.  Because of these cabins, the lives of many families will be enriched for generations to come.”

Easter Seals Iowa President and CEO Sherri Nielsen and Hubbell Realty Company President and CEO Rick Tollakson also spoke during the ceremony, along with Margie Sheehy, the mother of Blake, a Camp Sunnyside camper.  “Blake loves Camp Sunnyside,” Sheehy said.  “We've always known he's in good hands while at camp, but these new cabins will make his experience even better.  It's reassuring to us to know he'll be safe and happy.” Blake is a teenager living on the autism spectrum and has been attending respite and summer camp for the past seven years.  Attending camp and receiving services at Camp Sunnyside has helped Blake to be successful at school and the time that he spends at Camp has made it possible for Tom and Margie Sheehy to continue working.

After Tollakson counted down to the official start of the build with a group of Camp Sunnyside campers, hundreds of trade partners and Hubbell employees went to work on framing the cabins.  “I really want to thank all of the trade partners, sponsors, volunteers and vendors who donate their time, talents and materials in order to make this build happen in just a week,” said Tollakson.  “It’s truly amazing to see so many people come together to support our campers,” added Nielsen.  The cabins will be completely framed by the end of the day with windows and an HVAC system to follow Tuesday morning.
