West Des Moines, IA (September 23, 2013) – As Hubbell Realty Company and its trade partners put the finishing touches on the two new cabins at Easter Seals Iowa’s Camp Sunnyside, volunteers will move new beds and lockers into each building. The beds were donated by Iowa Prison Industries, a division of the Iowa Department of Corrections.

Iowa Prison Industries provides work training to offenders within Iowa’s state prisons. The company is 100% self-supporting through the sale of its products to government agencies and nonprofit organizations. The furnishings for the new cabins at Camp Sunnyside were manufactured by the Metal Furniture Shop located at the Anamosa State Penitentiary. “Many of our customers, like schools and libraries, require furniture that is built to last, and Camp Sunnyside is no different,” said Iowa Prison Industries Supervisor, Tim Diesburg. “Through the manufacturing of thousands upon thousands of beds and lockers, we have developed designs that are durable, affordable and will last for decades.”

Upon hearing about Cabins for Campers 24/7, Iowa Prison Industries offered to donate new beds and mattresses to the project. “Because of the special needs of many of the campers, a great deal of thought was given to the specific design and layout for the beds,” said Iowa Prison Industries Production Coordinator, Mark Hollenback. In total, Iowa Prison Industries donated 90 beds for campers and 52 bunk beds for counselors. Easter Seals Iowa also purchased lockers for the new cabins from Iowa Prison Industries, giving campers a designated place to store their belongings.

“These new accessible beds are a wonderful addition to our beautiful new cabins,” said Easter Seals Iowa President and CEO Sherri Nielsen. “This was a fantastic gift from Iowa Prison Industries that our clients and staff will benefit from for years to come.”

Hubbell Realty Company is hosting a ribbon cutting at 2:00 pm this afternoon to celebrate the completion of the week long project. Guest speakers include Lieutenant Governor Kim Reynolds and Polk County Supervisor Tom Hockensmith. Camp Sunnyside will host its first Respite Camp in the new cabins this weekend.
