Simpson College's Adult Education Program Selects New Location at Century II Building in West Des Moines
West Des Moines, IA (November 11, 2009) – Due to its continued growth and success, Simpson College, based in Indianola, with branch campuses in West Des Moines and Ankeny, Iowa, plans to relocate its West Des Moines Evening, Weekend & Graduate Program to the Century II Building at 1415 28th Street. With a record number of adults returning to school to refresh or redirect their careers, Simpson has responded by selecting a new location that offers ease of access and amenities to meet the needs of this growing student population. Sitting halfway between the western suburbs and Des Moines’ central business district, the Century II building is a convenient location for current and prospective students. Prominent exterior signage to be positioned on the building’s overlook on I-235 will draw the eyes of 100,000 drivers each day, prompting new attention and focus on Simpson’s offerings. “This is a great move for Simpson,” states Andrea Biklen, Director of the campus. “The campus is accessible, the classrooms will be state-of-the-art and we will create a welcoming and student friendly environment.” I-235’s 22nd and 35th/Valley West Drive exits provide easier and quicker access and student parking will be abundantly available near all entrances. Approximately 12,000 SF of Century II will be devoted to a full array of student services including sunlit classroom space for both undergraduate and graduate degree programs, computer labs and meeting rooms. The building’s prominent atrium is an attractive amenity that will function as a new feature for the program. This open, inviting space is not only conducive for hosting program related events, but will also serve as a ‘college commons’ of sorts, a communal area where students can gather and interact before and after class. Rosemary Link, Simpson’s new associate vice-president of academic affairs responsible for the Evening, Weekend and Graduate programs is delighted with the facility. “Simpson has made a commitment to lifelong learning and this new space reflects the mission of the college to generate community, to offer service and engagement with local business and non-profit agencies. The College will be able to host community events as well as a variety of classes and conferences.” Simpson, a longtime leader in central Iowa adult education, offers flexible course scheduling, Saturday FASTrack classes, and rigorous courses taught by experienced faculty. At the new West Des Moines location, courses are offered in everything from Accounting to Criminal Justice and Sociology to modern Literature. Students enrolled in the Program also have access to academic advising, library resources, arts and athletic events on the Indianola campus. Vibrant demand for accessible and flexible education that fits the lifestyles and schedules of working adults has prompted Simpson’s greater expansion in the metro Des Moines area. Century II, owned and managed by Hubbell Realty Company, will usher the institution smoothly through the second decade of the 21st century and well beyond. CB Richard Ellis/Hubbell Commercial Vice President and Broker Associate Paul Weeks advised Simpson College on the lease.
