Des Fresh moving from food truck to in-house storefront, reports CBRE | Hubbell Commercial

Des Moines, IA (November 11, 2020) – Following a successful two-years in the food truck business, Des Fresh owners Stephanie Cox and Timothy Kommavongsa have announced they will move their operation on wheels to a Cityville on 9th storefront in downtown Des Moines.

Since opening in 2018, Des Fresh has been serving up fresh foods and sandwiches with a funky spin. The restaurant will now occupy a little more than 1,500 square feet in the Cityville on 9th community, CBRE | Hubbell Commercial reports.

"We established ourselves as occasional vendors at the Downtown Des Moines Farmer's Market on Saturday's and at Peace Tree Brewing Co. on Sundays where we prepared and served food out of our truck in every type of weather imaginable. Lines would form from the beginning to the very end of service or until we began running out of product; whichever came first,” explained Cox when discussing the move. “Those awesome experiences alone made us realize we would need to expand and grow so we could accommodate our hungry and growing clientele.”

Cox, Kommavongsa and team are currently working on improvements to the space, including painting, installing and upgrading kitchen appliances and designing the space to match the food they serve. As for the food truck, Cox hopes to sell it to another food truck hopeful so they can have the same opportunity to pursue their dreams.

“Often times, we would announce our schedule the day before operating out of the truck. Now that we have a roof, and our kitchen is no longer on wheels, we're looking forward to being open consistently in our own place with our own address!” said Cox.

“It’s great to see a locally owned business expanding operations due to their ongoing successes. The market for retail space is clearly slow right now, although we are seeing interest in second generation restaurant space and select small spaces for professional service businesses. This gives business owners the opportunity to control their hours rather than relying on specialized events, many of which have been canceled or modified due to COVID-19.,” said Michael Smith, Vice President for CBRE | Hubbell Commercial who specializes in the retail industry.

Other companies like Raygun have also recently increased their physical footprint due to online consumer demands.
