Origin Homes celebrates grand opening of Veterans District homes in Knoxville

KNOXVILLE, IA — More than 50 community members, homebuyers, and local leaders gathered in Knoxville to celebrate the grand opening of new homes in the Veterans District, marking another milestone in Origin Homes’ commitment to growing attainable housing across rural Iowa.

Guests toured completed homes alongside current & past clients, explored design options, and connected with representatives from USDA, as well as city and county officials who have helped champion the redevelopment of the former VA campus into a thriving residential community.

The event showcased the new homes and the momentum behind a housing initiative that continues to reshape what growth can look like in rural Iowa.

A community milestone years in the making

The grand opening represents the next chapter in the transformation of Knoxville’s Veterans District—a redevelopment effort fueled by collaboration between public partners and private builders like Origin Homes.

Origin’s impact has been significant. Over the past several years, they have built 38 homes across rural Iowa, with Knoxville serving as a cornerstone of its efforts.

“Origin Homes has made a meaningful and measurable impact on housing development in Knoxville, particularly within the Veterans District.”
— Brian Hatch, Mayor, City of Knoxville

Through its Rural Housing Initiative, Origin continues to partner with local communities to deliver workforce housing designed to meet real demand, bringing new residents, supporting employers, and strengthening local economies.

Designed for today’s buyers & tomorrow’s growth

Attendees at the event experienced firsthand the variety of homes available, ranging from thoughtfully designed ranch and 1.5-story floor plans to customizable finishes for buyers who engage early in the process. Each home reflects Origin’s focus on attainability without sacrificing quality—an approach that has driven strong demand across rural markets.

“Each home has sold within four to five months of completion, with several homes selling prior to construction being finalized.”

That demand remains strong: today, only two homes remain on the market in Knoxville, reinforcing the need for continued housing investment.

Building momentum for rural Iowa

The success seen in Knoxville mirrors a broader trend: growing recognition that rural communities need scalable, attainable housing solutions to support population growth and economic opportunity.

“Knoxville has truly shown what the future of rural Iowa can look like. We’re proud to continue to take feedback from the community and bring more attainable homes to this market.”
— Matt Daniels, Director of Operations, Origin Homes

Origin Homes is actively expanding its footprint across the state, building in multiple small-town communities like Panora, Jefferson, Conrad, Manning, and Gowrie, with others expecting to be announced later this fall. This effort is all to help close the housing gap through strategic partnerships and innovative financing tools like Workforce Housing Tax Credits.

A shared vision for growth

City and county leaders, along with state and federal partners, have played a critical role in bringing the Veterans District to life, demonstrating the power of collaboration in addressing housing shortages.

As families move in and new homes continue to rise, the Veterans District stands as a model for how thoughtful development can revitalize communities while creating opportunities for the next generation of homeowners.

With only two homes remaining, prospective buyers are encouraged to explore the available inventory and see firsthand what makes this community unique:
