Two Hubbell multifamily projects awarded Iowa Workforce Housing Tax Credit Awards

Hubbell Realty Company has been awarded Workforce Housing Tax Credits through the Iowa Economic Development Authority (IEDA) and Iowa Finance Authority (IFA) for two multifamily communities in Indianola and Urbandale.

Townhome community planned in Indianola

The proposed multifamily community in Indianola is planned to have 50 homes, at minimum, located adjacent to the Midwest Line College, on the northeast side of the city. As Indianola continues to attract employers, workers, and investment, housing availability remains a critical challenge. According to the 2024 Indianola Housing Study and Needs Assessment, the community faces a significant need for both owner-occupied and rental housing. The housing study also found that more than 4,100 individuals work in Indianola but live in surrounding communities, including Des Moines, West Des Moines, Norwalk, Ankeny, and Urbandale.

“Indianola continues to experience strong economic growth, but like many communities across Iowa, housing supply has struggled to keep pace with demand,” said Matt Weller, Vice President of Development with Hubbell. “This community will be  designed to provide high-quality housing that supports working individuals and families, especially those looking to extend their education at Midwest Line College as well.”

Line Seven apartments moving forward in Urbandale

Hubbell is advancing Line Seven, a new apartment community planned at NW 142nd Street and Waterford Road in Urbandale, with construction starting this fall. The first phase will encompass 135 units and will cost $23 million.

The development is planned to bring 225 apartments across five buildings, offering a mix of studio, one-, two-, and three-bedroom homes alongside amenities including a clubhouse, pool, dog park, and garages. As part of the project, 15 apartments will be designated as affordable housing for residents earning 60% to 80% of the area median income, helping expand housing options in one of the metro’s fastest-growing corridors.

Located within the Waukee Northwest School District, Line Seven supports Urbandale’s goal of diversifying housing opportunities while meeting growing demand for quality rental living. Read the full release on Line Seven apartments here.

Hubbell and its divisions have successfully delivered several workforce housing communities through previous Workforce Housing Tax Credit-supported developments, most recently including Telus Condos, Callaway at Holland Pointe, and Oskaloosa Townhomes.
